Soaring above the storm

I love the eagle bird, not only because it is a strong bird, it is the only bird that I know that flies against the storm. It takes immerse courage to fly against a storm. Once in a while I like being an eagle. I like the freedom that comes with it, the courage to walk into unfamiliar grounds and the fearlessness of it all.

I have been able to accomplish more in life when I walk around as one. What does it feel like being an eagle? Let’s find out.

An eagle is visionary

Eagles have a keen vision. Their eyes are specially made for long distance focus and clarity. Having a clear vision is a pathway to achieve our goals.

Eagles are fearless

An eagle will never surrender to the size or strength its prey. It will always give a fight to win and regain its territory. Whatever challenges we have in life, we should always strive to overcome.

Eagles are Tenacious

When other birds fly away from the storm with fear, an eagle spreads its mighty wings and uses the current to soar to greater heights. I use challenges as stepping stones and learning points to achieve my goals. It is far much better than self pity.

Eagles are high flyers

Eagles can fly to an altitude of 10,000 feet, but they are able to swiftly land on the ground. They fly high unlike other birds and make less noise waiting for opportunities to strike their next prey or glide with the current of the storm. Great achievers are problem solvers, they do not complain. They love to take challenges just like an eagle.

Eagles never eat dead meat

An eagles never scavenges, it eats meat from a prey it kills itself. I like being with people who can think, make informed decisions and take action; the change thinkers and change makers. Remember the people you hang around with and the books you read makes you who you are eventually.

 Eagles take time to rejuvenate

At the age of 30yrs, an eagle physical condition deteriorates fast making it difficult for it to survive. It retreats to a mountain top to rejuvenate for a period of five months; a process that is quite painful but necessary (link). The process gives it a rebirth enabling it to live another 30 years. We all need to take a break from our daily lives and regain our strength. A vacation will do, but do not forget to learn new skills to enable you to fit in to life changing trends.

Eagles nature their young ones

This is my best part, “Never give people handouts, and teach them to fish”.  An eagle nests in the highest part it can find, and I mean highest. When it’s time for the young ones to fly, it carries the young ones on its back flies very high and lets it fall suddenly. The mother will catch it before it fall to the ground and the process is repeated till the young one can fly on its own from higher grounds. If the young one goes back to the nest the eagle will tear the nest apart and force the young one off the cliff till it learns to spread its wings.

There is an eagle in each and every one of us that wants to soar high; there is also a hippopotamus in us that wants to wallow in the mud. Choose to be an eagle today.

New Year's Resolutions

I have always set my new year's resolution as long as I can remember. It is the same old story; write your resolutions down including your long term goals, break them down into smaller goals, plans and steps, cancel them out as you meet each goal and finally do not forget to write down reasons/ challenges for goals not accomplished.

I have religiously followed this routine for many years. Last year I decided to do things slightly different. I decided to include reasons why I was unable to accomplish some of my goals easily within time limit or sometimes before the dateline. One thing was apparent; it was neither the recourses that I had at hand nor the time. I enjoyed working towards meeting these goals; there was an inner motivation as compared to the ones I never met most of which was solely because of procrastination or lack of will power.

When you are setting out your new resolutions, which I know most of us have already done. Align them to what you like most in life, your passion, that way you are more likely to accomplish most if not all of them. "Goals have to be realistic and achievable"

Do not get me wrong, it does not mean that you give up on that degree you have always wanted to take for a long time and have always found a reason not to do it. Maybe the line of study isn’t interesting enough to motivate you. Then change the line of study to the one you know you have passion in. Is it that weight loss regime you have always procrastinated because of the diet? Who said you have to starve yourself to because of that weight, by all means eat the same quantity but change the menu. Throw in more vegetables and fruits and cut down on those carbs. Maybe you are not up for that work out. How about enrolling in a dance class and dance those pounds off. You will kill two birds with one stone, loose your desired weight and add one more skill to your resume.

The bottom line is, you do not have to change your main goal in life. The fact that you have not achieved your goal for quite some time or years now does not mean it is impossible. Change your strategy and approach; make your journey towards your goals and resolutions more enjoyable and fun. You will reach there before you know it.

How to Achieve Self acceptance

 How to Achieve Self acceptance

I have learnt through life that self acceptance is the source of true happiness. Accepting yourself boosts your self esteem and builds your confidence. You are able to accomplish much in life and easily achieve your goals. Self acceptance oozes out of us, it radiates to all around us.
Self acceptance is mirrored in our action towards ourselves and towards others. The level of our self acceptance will determine how we choose to be treated by those around us and how we treat others. A high level of self acceptance gives birth to respect towards others and to ourselves. This is a must have to everyone.

How do we achieve self acceptance?

Avoid comparing ourselves to others.
Comparing ourselves to others generates pain because there will always be someone who is better looking than you, someone who has achieved more or someone who is better than you in one aspect or another. Do your best, look your best and live within your means.

Be grateful.
Be grateful for who you are, what you have and what you have achieved. Count your blessing and achievements more often than your failures. Take failures as leaning points and stepping stones in your journey.

Learn to forgive yourself and others.
We all make mistakes in life. Forgiving your self is the best thing that can happen to you. You will also find it easy to forgive others in the process. A non forgiving heart is a cancerous heart.

Respect other people and their views.
You do not have to agree with everyone nor their views, but learn to respect them. It is a high maturity of self acceptance.

Learning to love yourself.

I learnt at an earlier age that loving myself is the most imporant thing. As my Grandfather would put it " If you do not love yourself, you do not have love to give others. You are an empty vessel."

I learnt that loving my self meant that I was beautiful, sufficient and unique. Everything about me was great if not glorious. I did not need people to confirm who I was because I may have to wait for a lifetime since many people may never appreciate who I really am.

Loving me meant I had to appreciate people as they came, accept them and learn to live with them without compromising on my values and in what I believed in. It meant standing up for what is right and learning to accept both positive and negative criticism. It meant being strong, accomodative and wise all at the same time.

Loving oneself is the greatest thing that can happen to anyone. You get to learn that what others feel or think matters less to you in relation to how God sees you. He created you in his own image, only you are you. Unique and His own Vessel.

I have been through many challenges in life like losing a loved one at a very tender age, my grandfather who was a very close friend and confidant, to having to find my place in the world full of competition and challenges. I was inspired to start this blog to share with you my journey to spiritual and mental growth. It takes time and courage to go through life. Challenges make us grow and that is what life is all about. Let us walk together in this journey.

I was born in an average loving  family, we did not have everything but my parents made us feel we owned the whole world. I have learnt to appreciate who I am, to be grateful for what I have, how to accept my limitations and work around them to be where I am today. It has been an exciting journey full of successful victories and learning lessons which I readily share with my friends colleagues and family to motivate and inspire them. These people have not only been inspired, they have also inspired me to share what i have to the world. That is why I am here to motivate and inspire.

I am an open person and i do not claim to be an expert in everything, everyday is a learning journey. I am ready to learn and accept feedback. You are welcome to contribute to this blog as well as ask questions. I will be glad to answer any of your questions. Feel free to share any content via social media platforms or e-mail.
